Throwback Thursday: Tunes on Repeat

Throwback Thursday

Welcome back to another Throwback Thursday. If you remember, a couple weeks ago we said that this is something we would do a few times throughout the month. Two weeks ago we talked about some of our favorite fantasy books from our childhood (and excluded Harry Potter because that’s just a no brainer). Today we are throwing it back to some of the music that we could not stop playing. The music that made our moms yell at us to turn it down and then continually share with the world how obnoxious our music was (PS we love our moms!).

So, what cd do we remember playing constantly until everyone in the house was sick of it?

Emily

Oh gosh, what do I even pick? Well…as a middle schooler I went through a lot of changes. I know most middle schoolers go through changes, but not all also have their dad die. So yea, I had a lot going on. After my dad passed I started to get a little “emo,” if you can call it that really. I started listening to stuff that I thought was super dark and songs that I felt just really got me. I loved my pop music, but it just wasn’t doing it for me anymore. I think this was the beginning of my journey into the pop punk and emo genre. It all began with…Good Charlotte.

I was 100% obsessed with these albums, but once they hit album number 4 I had decided they sold out. Yep, I was that kid. I decided that they got me and that I was doing better because I had their music. My mom hated them. My sister loved them (which is good because we shared a bedroom at the time). We got to go to a concert when I was in 10th grade and I thought it was the best thing ever. So yea. Here are a few songs just to make you smile. Because I bet you wanted to listen to Good Charlotte today.

Arika

So I have been debating all day on what cd/artist I was going to pick. Would I go with a boy band that tore up my heart (*wink wink did you see what I did there) or would I pick some good 90’s country artist. Well I decided neither of those and went with a classic group who most people love and I am so glad that my parents made me listen to their music…the amazing Queen.

So many good memories listening to Queen on road-trips with my family. Asking my parents to play the “thunder bolts and lightening” song, which was what we called Bohemian Rhapsody or singing along to We Are the Champions when our sports team won a big game! I am so glad my parents shared all their great music that they grew up to with us as kids. There music is so unique and has so much power behind it. They were on a whole different level and there will never be another artist like Freddy Mercury. Ever. So to make your day a little better, here is a few songs to jam out to on your fabulous Thursday:

Question: What are some cds or artists that you couldn’t stop playing?

From the Musical Archives… Romeo and Juliet

I absolutely love sharing music on my blog. Whether its super popular to everyone reading it, something not many people have heard of, or the most absurd songs…I absolutely love it. I hope that through this feature I can start to share music just a little more with you. I honestly have no clue how often these posts will be up or what kind of music you will get, but I hope that you enjoy and that we can both talk music and discover new artists and genres. I will also be having a page dedicated to listing the music I have shared so far. I really am excited to start this new feature on my blog, and I hope you enjoy!

For my first week I went back to my high school/early college days. Not only did I love this band, but I loved what they did with this cover. And before you ask me yes, I have listened to the original. Though that one is good, I just prefer this version. I love Brandon Flower’s voice, and it just works so well with this song.

This week I have been back in my hometown watching my mom’s dogs and taking care of the house. It’s a long story, but basically I am here because I have big plans for the weekend to celebrate my dear friend at her wedding shower and bachelorette party! So basically I have been looking through music in case we are in need of some at the party, and this song came up and I forgot just how much I love it. Therefore I must share it with you. Enjoy.

The theme of this week’s song selection is….your favorite band from your high school/college years is SLOWLY releasing new music and each release makes you even more sad that they are going to be breaking up in 2018 (but they will stay 18 forever). This song…this is everything about Brand New that I adore…and it just makes me sad that this is just a part of the strong of last songs that they will release.

This week is dedicated to the rumor that Frank Ocean’s album is supposed to be dropped THIS MONTH and the desperate need that I have of this album. I have been waiting and waiting and waiting and I just…I need more Frank Ocean in my life. So though I am in the whole “believe it when I see it” phase of having faith in this album dropping, I have all my fingers and toes crossed in hopes that it does happen.

As far as the song choice goes….I just really love this song.

Any songs you feel like sharing on this fabulous Thursday?

Lately, First Aid Kit has been played constantly throughout the day. I love their voices, their lyrics, and the general feelings of their songs. My Silver Lining has been played A LOT, because honestly…it helps me out. They have some crazy good lyrics that really have helped me in tough spots. Songs I can relate to and can come back to whenever I need them.

Today I am looking forward in my life and seeing a lot of unknown. I am back to where I didn’t necessarily want to be, and it’s not really due to any fault on my end (the one bright side of this at the moment). So today I am trying to start positive. Trying to think good things and to at least look forward to the summer ahead. I have a wonderful family, great friends, and a lot of things to look forward to in the coming months that should easily outweigh the not so fun stuff.

I can always count on NEEDTOBREATHE to bring me exactly what I need to hear.

I got dreams that keep me up in the dead of night
Telling me I wasn’t made for the simple life
There’s a light I see, but it’s far in the distance
So I’m asking you to show me some forgiveness
It’s all for you in my pursuit of happiness

Thursday Tracks: Can’t Stop the Feeling

Hi. I’m Emily. And I am a huge Justin Timberlake fangirl. And as soon as he dropped this single I FREAKED out and listened to it for days straight. I am that type of person. So naturally, I realized I hadn’t fangirled about it on my blog. Therefore, that is my track this week. Because….I CAN’T STOP THE FEELING!

Sia has become one my favorite artists. I love her voice and the honesty of her lyrics. She kind of tells it how it is, but has a positive message behind so many songs lately. Lots of songs about overcoming your darkness and your demons and living your life the way it should be. I honestly only picked my current fave of hers for this week because it is so tough to pick just one. But I love this song. I love the message of this song. I love a workout I found to this song (which I will definitely post). Here you go 🙂

And in case you wanted that workout…here it is. I am really digging the ladies at REFIT and the awesome routines they come up with. I was feeling this one.
