Hey everyone we are back!!! And we are so happy to be doing another Top Ten Tuesday hosted by those lovely ladies over at The Broke and The Bookish. This week the theme is ten book recommendations for a group of our choosing. Since we are getting into mid-August (I know we can’t believe summer has gone by this fast either!), we decided to do ten book recommendations for students. More specifically we are going to each do five recommendations of our favorite required reads from when we were in school. We don’t know about you but we definitely had a few really good reads that were required when we are in school, so we hope that you can enjoy them too!
Arika:
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald | The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis | To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee | Was God on Vacation? by Jack Van Der Geest | Beowulf by Unknown
Emily:
The Outsiders by SE Hinton | The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi | The War of the Worlds by HG Wells | The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien | Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Question: What book did you most enjoy reading in school?
We chose the same topic! (Although I focused on college students…I’ll probably do high school next week for back-to-school freebie.) I absolutely love The Outsiders. It was one of my first YA reads!

Hi! I looooved The Outsiders when I read it in school. I really didn’t like any of the required reading I had to do in high school. I think I was tired of people telling me what to read. lol. A couple I remember loving were All Quiet on the Western Front and Waiting for Godot. Now I read a classic every summer and I enjoy them so much more. I’ve loved The Grapes of Wrath (probably my favorite) as well as The Sun Also Rises. I need to reread To Kill a Mockingbird because I’d probably like it more now. Great idea for this week 🙂

I need to start doing that every year…read a classic that I have never read because there are so many out there!

Ooh good stuff. I’ve never actually read War of the Worlds, oddly enough. And I saw the Outsiders movie but never read the book. The Hobbit though, and The Lio, The Witch and the Wardrobe are definitely favorites! I liked reading Beowulf in school too…

Of those 10, my school only had The Great Gatsby and To Kill a Mockingbird. Can’t say I liked either one much, though I did enjoy The Hobbit and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe on my own time. 🙂 Frankenstein led to the longest 1-star gif review I’ve ever done.
I remember enjoying reading Hamlet and Wuthering Heights in school, though I’m not sure my classmates liked them much.

OMG THE HOBBIT WAS A REQUIRED READ? LUCKYYYYYY. I’ll be reading The Great Gatsby for school next week, so I hope I enjoy it as much as you, Arika! My favorite required reads were Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand and The Chosen by Chaim Potok.
